FreshStart is a BSU ministry that hopes to make the transition to Ole Miss seamless for new students like freshmen and transfers. This ministry provides opportunities for fun fellowship and small-group Bible studies, making it easy to quickly meet other new students and upperclassmen. FreshStart kicks off with FreshStart Weekend, the weekend following the first week of classes in August) and continues throughout the fall semester as new students meet together in small groups for discipleship and community.
The International Student Ministry helps international students with their transition to Oxford, MS, and provides opportunities for international students and American students to get to know each other. BSU students love to make lasting memories with international students, help them get acquainted to Oxford and Ole Miss, and dialogue about culture, government, spirituality, and everything in between. Drama is a BSU ministry comprised of students who love to communicate truth from God’s Word through dramatic performance. Students perform skits at BSU events as well as churches within a two-hour driving distance of Oxford. If you have a passion for drama, this is a perfect way to get involved and use your gifts!
Discipleship is a BSU ministry that provides discipleship opportunities for students in small-group settings. Following Jesus’ command to make disciples, the discipleship ministry desires to make followers and learners of Jesus Christ. Students lead these small groups, which might meet at the BSU, in someone’s apartment, or at the local coffee shop for a time of Bible study and fellowship. Are you interested in a small group? The Worship Team leads BSU students in worship through music and travels to churches to lead worship for Discipleship Now and other events. These students have a passion for pointing their peers to Jesus through song and have different gifts from running sound to singing and playing instruments. If you are gifting in singing or playing an instrument or like to be involved in worship behind the scenes, let the worship team know!
Outreach is a ministry that desires to reach out to students on Ole Miss’ campus. The students involved in this ministry seek to share the love, grace, and good news of Jesus to their peers through service and communication. They also get the word out on campus about the BSU.
Community Missions is a BSU ministry that seeks to meet both spiritual and physical needs in the community of Oxford. In the past, students have hosted Kid’s Club weekly in a local neighborhood that has a need for children’s afternoon activities; distributed Thanksgiving food boxes to families in need; and helped with building projects in Oxford. Community missions is constantly looking for ways to serve the community. If you have an idea or want to get involved, let us know!
International Missions seeks to provide short-term and long-term missions opportunities for students, educate and equip students for missions, and raise financial support for students who want to serve God through missions. One way that the BSU and its International Missions ministry raise money for students is by cleaning the Grove after football games. Sign up for Grove Cleanup at the BSU today to help out this fall! Hospitality is a BSU ministry whose team plans opportunities for fellowship at the BSU. Activities range from Tuesday night dinners to Saturday night dance parties and bonfires! Students on the hospitality team also plan our Halloween, Christmas, and End-of-the-Year parties at the BSU. Students on the hospitality team are passionate about creating opportunities for community and fun at the BSU.
Communication consists of our BSU blog and social media. Students write and edit blog posts in the form of testimonials, devotionals, and theological arguments. This ministry is always looking for ways to expand to create an online presence for the BSU.
